More than a Block
In 2020, after my mother’s death and the onset of the Pandemic, I had difficulty making art. I decided to focus on making small works in a playful frame of mind. Well-worn children’s blocks and chess pieces from my father’s chess set got me moving. Handling the small objects brought back memories of making cardboard box doll house furniture with my mother. Back then, toothpaste caps were cups, old postage stamps became paintings, and check boxes with old clothespins were four-poster beds. My materials are different now, but my love of play keep me creating.
